IP rating

A cell phone's level of resistance to solids and liquids is certified by the IP (Protection Index) created by the International Electrotechnical Commission. It is represented by two numbers indicating respectively dust protection level (on a scale of 0 to 6) and level of water resistance (on a scale from 0 to 9). A phone can be considered "waterproof" when it is certified to IP67 or IP68.

The design of waterproof phones

Not all waterproof smartphones are impervious to the same liquids and solids. While most provide protection against water, our engineers have chosen components and technologies that make it possible toensure optimum sealing against a wide range of liquids: fresh water, salt water, paint, oil, snow, chlorinated water, hydroalcoholic gel... but also to dust, sand and other microscopic residues.
