INNOVATION at the heart of LIFT V2+ CROSSCALL
While the primary objective in 2021 was to build an innovative, high-performance Class40 prototype to take part in the biggest ocean races, the objective today is deliberately toincrease the boat's reliability while maintaining optimum performance. The Crosscall Sailing Team is therefore working hand in hand with Marc Lombard Design, a firm with excellent expertise in Class40 design, to continually optimize the boat.
"The whole point of a prototype is to be able to develop it constantly, and that's what fascinates me, as much as sailing. With the architects and the expert eye of our co-skipper Vincent Riou, we worked on making the mast more reliable and improving downwind sailing, which will be the dominant point of sail on this Transatlantic."
Aurélien Ducroz, skipper Crosscall Sailing Team
A CONCAVE BOW
The lower part of the hull was completely cut away to graft a new bow.
"This new bow shape takes the load off the boat downwind in the breeze and helps it to ride the waves it catches, rather than bumping into them and slowing down. We've gone from a domed shape to a concave, gull-wing shape and thus removed the boat's weak point while retaining its strong points - that's Lift V2+!"

RELOOKING
Crosscall 's design teams have created a new look that plays on waves, blending technological and marine symbolism.
ULTRASONIC WIND VANES
A new addition to the Class40 range, Crosscall replaces the two traditional mechanical wind vanes at the masthead with spheres that use ultrasound to detect wind speed and direction.
A REINFORCED MAST
Following the dismasting during the Route du Rhum, a new mast with a second set of spreaders is integrated into the boat to improve reliability.
TWO NEW PARTNERS IN THE CROSSCALL SAILING TEAM
In 2023, Crosscall, title partner, Herbelin, Finergreen and Opinel, long-standing partners of the skier-skipper, are stepping up their commitment to the Crosscall Sailing Team and welcoming the town of Chamonix Mont-Blanc and MIROVA, a management company dedicated to sustainable investment and an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, to the adventure.
They all share the desire to be part of a long-term sporting and human adventure alongside Aurélien Ducroz.
AURÉLIEN CHOOSES VINCENT RIOU AS CO-SKIPPER
The Crosscall Sailing Team is delighted to welcome Vincent Riou - winner of the Vendée Globe in 2005 and the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2015, for the upcoming double-handed sailing season. Already reunited and victorious at the last Mondial Class40 in La Rochelle, Aurélien and Vincent form an ambitious duo who will take advantage of three great races; the Normandy Channel Race, Les Sables-les Açores and the 40 Malouine to pool their skills with the Transat Jacques Vabre in their sights.
"Beyond the success we had in the Class40 World Championship, working with Vincent went extremely well on the water. He has incredible experience and sails a lot by feel. It's something that speaks to me, because that's the way I work too. Technically, he's extremely sharp, and with the investment he's made in preparing the boat, he's already on course to win the Jacques Vabre!"
Aurélien Ducroz, Skipper Crosscall Sailing Team
Vincent Riou has been working alongside Aurélien since the boat's preparation, with a view to ensuring the best possible performance for the Transat Jacques Vabre.
"Aurélien and I have very different routes, but what I like is that we speak the same language. Crosscall is a very versatile and fast boat in all conditions. We're both going to bring our skills, our desire, our motivation, but what counts is finding a common language. This year, my priority is this project. It'll be my first Transat Jacques Vabre in Class40, and with the line-up of skippers we've got lined up, it's guaranteed to be a great competition and a great time at sea.
