Whether you're a ski fan or simply a mountain lover, we've selected the must-have apps for a successful stay in the mountains!
FATMAP, THE #1 APPLICATION FOR MOUNTAIN SPORTS
If we had to recommend just one, this would be it! Ergonomic and complete, FATMAP is the N°1 application for mountain sports.
Thanks to FATMAP, you can plan your route through the resort, find your bearings easily thanks to its tracking system and save your journey. Developed by local experts, the free version of the app gives a highly detailed description of the different routes (pistes, off-piste, trails) to be explored: level of difficulty, route description, characteristics (altitude, distance, incline).
With FATMAP EXPLORE (paid version) access official topographic maps and analyze the terrain layer by layer, so you can make the best decisions and ride safely. You can also download your map in advance, so you can access it without an Internet connection and save your battery by using your application in airplane mode.
YOUR STATION'S APPLICATION
Many ski areas and resorts now offer their own apps: Chamonix, Serre-Chevalier, Tignes... In addition to information on the ski lifts (lift pass prices, opening hours, piste map), you'll find all the information you need on "life" in the resort: shops and restaurants, entertainment, transport. Another plus: webcams to see conditions in real time, and a "Rescue" tab that gives your precise geolocation (latitude, longitude) to the resort's first-aiders. Some resorts, such as Chamonix, will also give you road conditions and direct access to Ski+ to record your performance and challenge your friends on the slopes!
A GOOD WEATHER APPLICATION
Finally, to make the most of your stay and anticipate your activities and travels, don't forget to have a good weather application on your phone! Here again, there are many to choose from. A few months ago, we recommended 3 of them: Weather Forecast, Accuweather and Windy.
AND ABOVE ALL, CHOOSE A SMARTPHONE THAT CAN WITHSTAND THE COLD!
Having all these applications is all very well, but you still need a phone that doesn't switch off as soon as the temperature goes into negative territory! So to avoid a breakdown at the top of the slopes, opt for a smartphone CROSSCALL. Our smartphones are designed for use in extreme temperatures: -25° for the CORE-X3 and theACTION and down to -40° for the TREKKER-X4. And if you decide to spend the night in a refuge, thanks to the X-POWERexternal battery, double your smartphone's autonomy.
