   -   January 15, 2020

Whether you’re crazy about skiing or just love the mountains, we have selected the apps you need for a great mountain holiday!

FATMAP, THE NO. 1 APP FOR MOUNTAIN SPORTS

If we had to recommend one, this would be it! Ergonomic and complete, FATMAP is the No. 1 app for mountain sports.

With FATMAP, you can plan all your outdoor adventures, track your routes and navigate on the go. Developed by local experts, of the allows you to create and upload routes, save your trips into organised Guidebooks, connect with services like Strava and explore the global library of highly detailed routes from over 20 activities. You can even analyse the with tools like altitude, distance, aspect and gradient.

With their membership FATMAP EXPLORE (paid version) you are given even more tools, such as topo maps for different countries (France, UK, USA, Switzerland and more), live data, snow levels, custom tools and more, so you fully understand the terrain and make the best decisions to ride safely. Explore also gives you unlimited offline map downloads so you don’t need an internet connection and can save your battery by using your app in aeroplane mode. The membership gives you exclusive access to their benefits and privileges with their outdoor partners, and you’ll also be doing your part by contributing to 1% For The Planet.

YOUR SKI RESORT’S APP

Many ski areas and resorts now have their own apps: Chamonix, Serre-Chevalier, Tignes, etc. In addition to information on the ski lifts (ski pass prices, opening hours, piste map), you will find all the information you need about “life” in the resort: shops and restaurants, entertainment, and transport. Another plus, webcams to see real-time weather conditions and a “Rescue” tab that will precisely provide your geolocation (latitude, longitude) to the ski area’s rescuers. Some resorts, such as Chamonix, will also give you road conditions and direct access to Ski+ to save your performances and challenge your friends on the slopes!

A GOOD WEATHER APP

Finally, to make the most of your stay and plan your activities and trips, don’t forget to have a good weather app on your phone! Here too, there is a wide range of options. A few months ago, we recommended three of them: Weather Forecast, Accuweather et Windy.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, CHOOSE A SMARTPHONE THAT CAN WITHSTAND THE COLD!

Having all these apps is all well and good, but you still need a phone that doesn’t switch off as soon as the temperature drops below freezing! So, to avoid a sudden failure at the top of the slopes, opt for a CROSSCALL smartphone. Our smartphones are designed for use in extreme temperatures: -25° for the CORE-X3 and ACTION-X3 et up to -40° for the TREKKER-X4. And if you decide to spend the night in a refuge, thanks to the X-POWER, external battery, extend your use by doubling your smartphone’s battery life.
